When dreams get out of control, The Sandman catches their elements in his nets (usually used for saving falling stars) and stores them in the Dreamer’s Trunk for safe-keeping. The trunk is full of the most extraordinary things... like sheep for counting, a nightmare - and the Big Dipper, which the Sandman uses to help sprinkle sleeping sand over the all world’s children. Keep digging and you’ll find nearly 100 dream-related items.

A voice boomed through the darkness at Joey, who was entangled in the net, suspended high in the sky. A strange ship with its sails billowed out and a great balloon rising from its center was drifting ever closer. An old man bellowed from the deck, "Who’s there?" It was the Sandman - and Joey’s real adventure was about to begin.

"Through stardust and comets and wind and bad weather, may this star that I hang in the sky stay forever!" These are the words of The Sandman as he hangs a new star each time a child is born. He positions the star in the sky, where it will stay until the end of time - right above the child’s home town.

Every evening, the Sandman places nets in the sky to catch falling stars. In the morning, he collects the harvest of stars and takes them back to his windmill - where he grinds them into fine sleeping sand.

In the early light of dawn, the ship settled like a giant beanbag onto the roof of Joey’s house. It was time for him to go home. The Sandman placed his hand on Joey’s shoulder and told him to open his eyes - and everything would become clear.

After watching the Sandman hang a star in the sky for a newborn baby named Kate, Joey wondered if there was a star for him, too. The Sandman knelt beside him and pointed toward a star with Joey’s name on it - a star which, like all the others hung by The Sandman, will stay forever in the sky.

The Sandman travels just behind the sunset and follows it right around the world, arriving at each town precisely at bedtime. He sprinkles his sleeping sand into the eyes of "every child, every night, no exceptions" - bringing sweet dreams to all.

The Sandman collects the falling stars and grinds them into sand. Some of it is used as sleeping sand; the rest is used to make the new stars. To make new stars, the Sandman melts the sand in his furnace and pours it into a mold. When it cools, a new star is born! The star is then engraved with the name of the world’s newest child - and the star is placed in the sky above the newborn’s home town, where it will hang forever.
