THE MAGIC MUSIC BOX

(A True Synchronicity Story)

4/15/04

When my mother passed away four years ago, I began to notice a strange phenomenon. Every once in awhile, a music box in our home would suddenly begin to spontaneously play. Usually it played when I was thinking of her, or something was happening related to her, in our home.

The music box was ordinary in every way. In fact, a friend had picked it up at a garage sale and given it to me about 7 years ago. It was round with rectangular mirrors glued all around its sides. The top was one round mirror supporting a clear blown glass tree limb with two frosted glass love birds. I couldn’t tell you what tune it played, as it was one I had never heard before. The base was a round silver colored metal piece which was turned clockwise, to wind it up.

My mother passed on in September of 2000. During the 3 years prior to that time, the music box remained silent, unless it was wound-up. But once Mom left, there were several spontaneous ‘turn ons’ coming from it each week. And, as I said, most often they began when I was thinking of her.

Dad was pretty lonely after mom left, and he and I decided to visit with each other on a weekly basis. One week I would drive to his town and the next he would drive to mine, about a two-hour drive each way.

On more than one occasion, while Dad and I were chatting in my home, the little mirrored music box began to play.

Dad acknowledged it by saying, “There must be some vibration in the house causing it to start playing.”

I felt I “knew better”, but I let him have his own explanation.

Six months later, my Dad was also gone. I guess he couldn’t live without Mom. This was when the music box really came to life. It played so much, it nearly became a joke in our home.

“There it goes again!” we’d laugh and shake our heads, in wonder.

My husband and I figured Mom and Dad were trying to tell us they were still ‘hanging out’ with us.

“Hi Mom, Hi Dad,” I’d say, “I love you.”

A year or so later, my husband and I were looking at homes in our area, thinking of moving. After a six month search, we decided on a lovely tree house kind of place, one block away, on the other side of the brook we now enjoyed. It had redwoods actually touching the deck which were very huggable, a hot tub, wood burning stove, and was surrounded by trees, up above it all, so all one saw from the windows were tree limbs. The house had a very soft, meditative energy.

As things progressed with the realtor, we made the plans necessary to buy the new home, moving forward. One day, just before certain papers were signed for the new house, I had some second thoughts.

I remember thinking, “I wish I knew for sure whether or not this is the best home for us. I wish I had some sign....like the music box playing.”

Just at that exact moment, way at the other end of the house, the music box began to play!

“Oh, wow!” I thought, “This is unbelievable! That house IS the best one for us.”

I was so amazed and excited by what had happened, I immediately phoned my husband at work and told him what happened.

“I wish you could have heard it,” I said, “but it has stopped playing now.”

Much to both our surprise, exactly at that moment in time, the music box played a little more, for him to hear over the phone.

“I guess we’re buying the house,” he said, and we both laughed in delight.

From that moment forward, neither of us had a doubt as to whether or not the tree house was for us. We couldn’t have been more certain.

And by the way, the little mirrored music box still, on occasion, plays its little unknown tune at unexpected times, and it is usually when something significant is happening in our lives.
