Tao of love

She was around 26 years old, and on this day she was very sad. Her heart had been broken over something. So she went into her room for privacy.

Sitting at her desk, she looked out her window into the garden. It was a lovely yard. Her home was very nice, woodsy, very near a small lake. She enjoyed her job and her marriage, and her several pets. Yet, something was missing. She felt alone and sad. In fact, bereft.

Her sadness grew as she sat staring out the window. Tears welled up in her eyes, rolling down her cheeks, delicately dropping onto the beautiful wooden desk.

Then suddenly her inner dam burst and she sobbed heart wrenching sobs. It felt as though Life itself were squeezing her until she was in touch with some unknown inner pain so deep she felt she would die. In fact, in those moments she wanted to die. Nothing mattered but the pain.

As she sobbed, with her eyes squeezed shut, one long string of snot began to dangle from her right nostril. She didn't care. In fact, she didn't even notice.

And then it happened.

Out of nowhere, a white moth landed on her right cheek, and started drinking the snot dangling from her nose.

Shocked, she suddenly stopped crying.

She froze in awe and wonder at this miracle of love, come to her in such a strange, unimaginable manner.

Yes, for her, it was a miracle. Life was telling her it loved her. Even in this dark hour, Life was reaching out to her with love, in a most strange, bizarre way.

She sat completely still and silent for 5 or 10 minutes, feeling the tender presence of the moth drinking on her cheek. Then the moth softly fluttered away, onto the window.

Feeling completely loved, she reached for the box of tissues to blow her nose and dry her tears. Then she spoke some tender words to the white moth.

Sitting again and staring out the window along with the moth, it was sinking in. Not only was she not alone, but she was dearly loved beyond her wildest imagination.

The Tao had visited her this day, on the wings of love.
