THE LOST BUTTON, painting by James Browne.
Humpty Dumpty offers the swallow a piece of his dinner roll in exchange for his lost button.
HUMPTY DUMPTY, OFF THE WALL
5/14/05
Humpty Dumpty,
off the wall.
Who's the fairest
of them all?
Tweedle Dee,
Tweedle Dum.
Where do we all come from?
And then oh,
where do we all go?
Humpty Dumpty
had a ball
when he found
he couldn't fall.
He lost all dread
when he bounced, instead!
"I'm not dead," he said,
as he felt his head.
Scrambled,
cracked,
or over easy.
It's a fact
this could be quite teasy.
Cinderalla
found her fella,
as white rabbit
kicked his habit.
Dropped his fate,
rushing to wait.
Left his umbrella
by the gate.
All the king's horses
and all the king's men
cried, "Please would you tell us
the story again?"
Humpty Dumpty,
off the wall.
Who's the fairest
of them all?
Tweedle Dee,
Tweedle Dum.
Where do we all come from?
And then oh,
where do we all go?
Humpty Dumpty
had a ball
when he found
he couldn't fall.
He lost all dread
when he bounced, instead!
"I'm not dead," he said,
as he felt his head.
Scrambled,
cracked,
or over easy.
It's a fact
this could be quite teasy.
Cinderalla
found her fella,
as white rabbit
kicked his habit.
Dropped his fate,
rushing to wait.
Left his umbrella
by the gate.
Humpty Dumpty,
sitting tall.
We all thought
he had to fall.
And yet,
it has been announced,
that instead,
he found he bounced!
